As a mixed media artist, I am deeply fascinated by the interplay of different colors and hues that emerge from layering paint on a large scale. This process creates a dynamic push-and-pull effect that is both physically and metaphorically engaging. Through the use of this technique, I engage in a dance with my medium - my paints - to create something truly unique.
What draws me most to this approach is the sense of freedom it offers me as an artist. By letting go of any planned image or preconceived notions about what each piece should look like, I can instead communicate directly with the artwork itself as if it were its own separate entity. The result is a call-and-response aspect within each piece that allows for endless creative possibilities.
To highlight these magical movements further, I often cut larger-scale canvases into smaller works; thereby creating new compositions while still maintaining their original essence. Each additional layer painted onto these smaller works expands upon their form and marks- revealing subtleties in color and texture which might have gone unnoticed otherwise.
My work aims to convey not only beauty through the vivid use of color but also depth through layers. Through unconventional techniques such as full body movement in mark making, I seek to tap into emotional aspects that transcend analytical thinking and create organic sentences with abstract forms. Ultimately, this process enables me to reflect upon our shared experiences within humanity's layered existence and offer viewers both aesthetic pleasure and deeper contemplation behind every mark.
